Industry Pulse: Fast News
EU AI Act: Pause, Pushback & What’s Next
In late June, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and tech lobbyists from CCIA Europe, which represents industry giants such as Apple, Meta, and Alphabet, urged the EU to suspend specific provisions of the AI Act before its implementation on August 2. They caution that hasty, ambiguous regulations may stifle creativity. These concerns were shared by Stefan Hartung, CEO of Bosch, who pointed out that excessively complicated regulations may lead Europe to “regulate itself to death” and fall behind its international rivals.
What to watch for July: A likely EU compromise—clarifying GPAI rules or postponing enforcement deadlines.

Brussels Summit & AI Enforcement Debate
At the June 26 EU summit in Brussels, the global AI Act took center stage alongside trade discussions. While business and civil society groups called for maintaining strict AI standards, including third-party testing, the summit left no firm resolution yet. This signals ongoing negotiations between innovation-driven and compliance-intensive member states.
Coming soon: July will bring EU Council conclusions that could reframe enforcement strategies for GPAI systems.

Legal Industry Innovation: A Sea Change
Technology adoption, shifting client demands, and strategic cost efficiency are all driving significant change in the legal sector. More than 60% of attorneys in large firms already regularly utilize generative AI, according to recent statistics, and the ALSP market has grown to $28.5 billion at a compound annual growth rate of 18% (Thomson Reuters 2025 Report). Confidence in alternative legal models is demonstrated by the fact that private equity investment in legal services exceeded £534 million in 2024 alone.
What to expect in July: continued adoption of AI tools, increased demand for managed legal services, and a sharper focus on flexible, value-based resourcing strategies.
