After more than ten years in the legal profession, and having been both a transactional lawyer, and on the hiring side – here is what I have to say to those just breaking into the field:

General Counsels (GC) are no longer expected to exclusively focus on their roles as legal advisors, but also address other matters, such as business, financial and procedural issues, development and growth of the team and strategy matters. This short post will focus on three main aspects that fall under the GC’s new roles.

Now  approximately 20-25% of lawyers work in-house, and in the UK, the in-house counsels market doubled itself in the past 15 years and currently, one of four counsels work in-house.
